Solar Sailor Holdings |
 |
 |
Sydney technology company Solar Sailor Holdings has reported a series of recent international business wins with its unique solar and wind power systems for marine vessels.
Solar Sailor, an Alumni member of the ATS program, develops technology which consists of solar panels shaped like “wings” that are fitted to vessels and are capable of generating solar energy as well as capturing wind power.
The technology allows marine vessels to supplement the use of fuel with renewable energy, cutting their environmental emissions and fuel costs and improving passenger comfort.
Pollution from the world’s shipping is a major issue, and adoption of the Solar Sailor technology would be a step in reducing it. For example, world shipping consumes 2 billion barrels of oil per year, and contributes 5 to 6% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. This is double the output of the aviation industry.
